Do You Still Not Have A List?

The Importance Of List Building

One of the ways that bloggers make so much money online is through list building. This is an effective way to stay in touch with your readers and subscribers too! Most people love to join your list because of the free gifts that comes with giving their email away.list building

However, I see a lot of people that only give out that one free piece of information. The rest of the emails are usually just a bunch of affiliate links and what-not! You must respect the people on your list. They will give you their email but that doesn’t mean that you have the right to email them garbage every day!

Back to the basics…

First things first. I understand why you may not have started list building yet. If you are a new blogger, then you may not have the budget to afford a great list building company. However, you have to do something! The very first thing that you need to do is start your list, but if you don’t have any money, how are you going to be able to afford these guys?

Well, there is one answer to this question. MailChimp List Building. It is totally free to use! Also, it beats the other guys who end up charging you $19 per month. Now, believe me, they will prohibit you from doing auto-responding emails, but that will not stop you from being able to send as many emails to your list as you want. Besides, it will allow you enough time to be able to build your list while you start to make some money to be able to afford the auto responder.

Well, the first thing that you want to do is to create or find a great ebook about a certain topic that pertains to your niche. Make this free for people too! My best product online is an ebook that took about 3 weeks to write called Boost Your Social Media Traffic Overnight. I have had people pay me upwards of $19 for this ebook because of the value that is in it! But in order to build my list, I give it away for free to the people that subscribe.

This is what you want to do. People are not just going to give their email away to just anything. You have to provide something that is worth the trade that they will give you. As I said, find something free to give them that is worth the price of their email and start to watch your list grow every day!

Once you find a product worth giving away, and you are beginning to have people to sign up, you now have a couple of decisions to make. How are you going to approach these people?Do you blast them every day with affiliate links? Would you constantly send them emails that gave them the opportunity to buy something?

I believe that you better not do this…

Keep your list as integral as your blog. This is an extension of your website, keep it respectable! You don’t want to blast your

list every day. I don’t care how good the offer is! This will make them want to shoot their-self in the head and make them wonder why they ever subscribed with you in the first place! I can only tell you what works for me and what I do. I usually write to my list 2 times a week. Do I send them offers? Sometimes, but not all the time. I try to send out helpful links or tips on how to make money through blogging or other means.

  1. I wouldn’t even blog without building a list!

I like the fact that MailChimp is free, but not being able to send out affiliate offers would literally cut out all my income as I don’t have my own products yet.

I definitely don’t mind paying for Aweber but I always suggest building one no matter what!

    Thanks a bunch,

Hey Wade, Spot on! As they say it’s all in the list.

I am on several marketers lists in my niche and outside my niche. It’s interesting to see what each one is doing what when it comes to email marketing. Plus you get some really good subject lines for ad copy.

The ideal is to build a relationship with your list, by doing so will build your creditability. I agree if your blasting your list with junk all the time they won’t stick around for long.

Be congruent with your emails, offer value and information that will help solve others problems. The next time around you offer a product or training they just might by it!

    Thanks, Wade!

    Wade,
Great post! I like the fact that you are presenting alternatives to paid services. I have a question, though. Are you saying Mail Chimp does not allow affiliate promotions on the starter (free) level, or that the out-rightly prohibit it whether you are a paid user or free?

If it is completely prohibited, then I would have almost no use for their service. But if not, I think it is a good deal to use the service and provide value to your until you have the numbers in your favor, then you can upgrade to the paid service and start placing your affiliate offers in-between.

    So, which is it?

No, MailChimp does allow you to refer people and also put affiliate links in your emails. The only difference with the free version is that MailChimp doesn’t allow you to use the auto responder feature. You have to be a paid member for that.

Auto responders are when you have a set of emails that have already been written and scheduled to send to your list. With the free version, you have to write each email on the day that you want to send it. Still effective!
