How To Use The YouTube Video Editor

Let’s face it, learning how to use the YouTube video editor is an important part of anyone’s social media strategy.  But what do you do when you don’t have any expertise in video editing?

Hmm, that’s what I thought too.

Believe it or not, for the types of things that I do, I don’t have a lot of editing equipment for video and images.  Big bloggers like Pat how to use the youtube video editorFlynn have a whole crew dedicated to helping him get the best possible video’s and audio’s to the public.

But we don’t have the revenue that he brings in.  At least not yet.  Perhaps in the future I will break down and buy a fancy video editor and a podcasting microphone, but for the time being, I use the free methods given.

How To Use The YouTube Video Editor

If you haven’t checked out my YouTube channel yet, that is another great place where you can get a lot of video tutorial’s and screen shares of how I do social media updates and other things like that.

YouTube is also where I learned how to use the YouTube video editor as well.

Something I dislike about it

As you know, YouTube is an extension of Google, and we all know that in order to find what we need on Google is not that simple. Finding out the particulars of the YouTube functions are no different. This is the only thing I don’t like about the platform. It doesn’t give the new Vlogger any details about how to do certain things.

Using the YouTube editor

First of all, in order to use the YouTube editor on a video, then that video must already have been recorded. After you finish your recording, all you need to do to find the editor is to go back to your main channel page and click on the Upload button.

Once you have clicked the upload button it will take you to another page where you can easily find the editor:

Once you are in the video editor, you will see all of the video’s that you have uploaded.  Choose the one you want to edit and drag it to the editing bar at the bottom.  From there you can choose whether or not you want to add text to introduce yourself or your video, add transitions if you want to include small snippets of other video’s inside, and even add music!

The “Drag & Drop” Theory

Remember, the whole point of everything is “drag and drop”  If you will notice above my video’s there are little icons that you can choose from.  These are even more ways to edit your video!  Once you click on the one you want, remember to drag and drop where you want it to be shown in your video (either in front or behind).

How I Used The YouTube Video Editor on This Video

You can basically create small snippets of short video’s if you want to.  Remember to make them “private” so people can’t see little short vid’s of you doing something stupid and wonder what in the world you’re doing!  I took a couple of short video’s, patched them together, put some text in, and added some music to it and it got a very positive response from people, and a lot of subscribers to my channel! This one’s a good share to learn. I am not really that familiar with youtube video editor since I do most of my editing using my pc. This is a good one to try on.

    Good tip.

I see how this can be beneficial especially if you don’t have camtasia or another video program that costs a few dollars.

I recently discovered that YouTube is also a great way to convert videos from 3gp format to MPEG.

It works like a charm Just upload and download. Saves time you don’t have to install or use a video conversion program.

This is an issue because the Android phones record videos in the 3gp format which camtasia doesn’t like.

  3. how to upload a video to my gmail account no doubt, but I do not understand how to make a video. what is the name of a place to edit the video?
    Thank you for sharing

Great tips! I have known that video is powerful for a while but put off creating them on a regular basis because well… honestly, I was a bit lazy – LOL! Thanks for keeping me from having to figure out the editing tool on my own.
