List Building Is Not Enough:How To Generate Income From Your Subscribers

The List Building Myth

Too many people these days are saying that list building will make you rich. Well, for the most part it will, but just building a huge list is not enough to bring in the big bucks.

List building is an important part of internet marketing, and an important part of making money with a blog. However, there are somelist building road blocks in the path to building a list.

Some people will tell you that 2,000 subscribers will make a lot of money, and others will say that you need 20,000 subscribers before you really get into the big bucks. This is just a guess. No one knows what the magic number is in email marketing. But what is known is the more “targeted” people that you have in your list, the better off you are going to be.

List Building 101

Getting a huge list like this can be hard. However, with the right tools, you can zip this job out pretty quickly.

As for the tools, you need to get Aweber Email Autoresponder, because, let’s face it, this is one of the best tools out there to save your list, create follow up messages, share to social media sites, and a whole lot more stuff that you can integrate into your email marketing strategy.

No one can really tell you how to build a massive list. There are many suggestions as to how you should do it, with the general one’s being to create a free product so people will actually opt-in to your list.

Don’t take it for granted that people will just give you their email just because you have thrown a freebie in your opt-in form. This has to be something special to you, something you believe in! For instance, when you subscribe to my list, you get a free step-by-step report on how I get thousands of social media traffic every day. This is special to me because I use it personally, and it took me over 7 weeks to research and write this ebook.

Sadly, this is not a post to tell you HOW to build a list, but rather a post to tell you how to generate more money out of your list building efforts! Here are some of the things you need to do to ensure monetization every time you send an email.

#1: Your Subscribers Are The Most Important Part Of Your Whole Business

Stop trying to sell them every little thing under the sun. These people gave YOU their email, so don’t abuse it! Treat them with respect. When they email you personally, email them back, right away! Answer their questions because this could be the difference between selling a product and not. One of the best ways I have found in order to make a relationship with your subscribers is to write an email to all of them and ASK them what they want to learn, or what they are trying to accomplish. They will tell you how to sell them! From this point on, only send things that they have asked for.

#2: Try Not To Promote Something You Haven’t Tried Yourself

Sometimes this is a hard thing to accomplish. There are objections to this rule and only in a scenario where you know that the product you are promoting is great, has a lot of users, and has a good rating. Don’t sell garbage.

#3: Make Your Links “Clickable”

One of the fastest ways to lose subscribers is by having a supposed “link” in the body of the email and it not work! I’m not perfect, and this has happened to me before, and I speak from experience! People don’t like this! Especially if you have sold the product really good in the email ad. Get their hopes up, then not allow them to click is worse than a fart in a diving helmet!

#4: Create A Catchy Subject Line

It’s no good if you have 20,000 subscribers and you can’t get any of them to even open the email. This is the first step to real monetization in email marketing. The words FREE and Guaranteed work well. Also, depending on your niche, Money and Traffic also work well. There is no certain standard to how to write these things. It’s just trial and error, however, write the catchiest subject line for best results to get them to open the email. General statistics say that 22% of your total email list will actually open your email.

#5: Create An Awesome Email “Body”

list buildingOnce you have gotten that 22% to actually open your email, you still aren’t out of the woods yet. You need to get them to click your buy link! The way to do that is to create a great email body that has information about the product, what it does, and how it can help them. Not too many words though. People aren’t about to sit there and read the “Gettysburg Address”. Make it short, simple, and to the point. Another general stat: Out of the 22% that opens your email, 3.5% should click the link and buy.

List Building Monetization Is Not Brain Surgery

Hey, you have already built the list! The hard part is over! Now you just have to be consistent with your emails. The best thing that I have found is to talk to people for yourself. If you have tried the product, tell them how it helped you, and ask them to try it. Being personal goes a long way in the internet marketing business…why? Because most internet marketers are self-proclaimed “sharks” and would rob their mother. Bring a change in your list building strategies and email marketing! Be different!

    Hi Wade.
Thanks for this powerful advice. List Building is just a general term, I know that.
So you still need to consider many things before you earn a lot of money from you subscribers and I agree with these nice tips here. Thank you again!

  3. It’s true that having a list is the most important item in any marketers arsenal. Providing value to those people is most important if you want to keep them. A very good point you make about only promoting products you have tried yourself. Thanks for the reminder.

    Hi Wade,
One of the fastest ways to train a list to buy from you is to get your subscribers used to the idea of clicking on links in your email.

When you send tips, add links to make them go elsewhere to complete the information or download a guide. Whatever!

Never send an email without giving your audience that opportunity to click – that way when you send affiliate offers, they would find it very natural to click on your links.

  5. Hi Wade,

In every business returning visitors are the ones who speaks the best of you and trust you. That’s why they return back. This is similar to subscribers in the blogging feild. One will have a very high chance of convincing a subscribed user than a new user. Thanks for the post.

    Hello Wade,
Nice article, yeah you are right the some people says that 2000 is enough to make huge money from e-mail marketing and other’s says that 20K is not enough i think if we have genuine 1000 subscribers then its Nice. Suppose we have subscribers in the thousands and we didn’t hard work so its useless to have thousands of subscribers.
    Thanks for the sharing :)

    • I guess it just depends on how targeted your subscribers are. If they are people that are in your niche then it’s going to be easy to sell something to them in the future. This will make 1,000 targeted subscribers as valuable as 20k random one’s.
