Did You Share That Post To Social Media?

Concept of Social Media

Social media is a beautiful thing. It connects us to one another and it has become one of, if not the most, important medium on thesocial media internet today.

If you don’t think so and you are starting a blog, thinking that you are just going to forget about social media, then check out a post by Jeff Bullas on social media statistics where he reveals some astounding facts:

My Social Media View

When I first started blogging over 2 years ago, I was really apprehensive about sharing. I would come across a great blog site that helped me with different things, something I now feel that would be worth a share, however, I would not share these bloggers posts because I saw their success, and I saw it as me with-holding a share from these “snooty, better-than-me” bloggers. They already made it, right? Why should I share their post anyway? Shoot, you couldn’t get me to share anything back then! Even today I won’t share your blog because of these reasons

Is This You?

social mediaThink about it. Have you ever felt reserved about sharing someone’s post, even though it gave you great information, helped you in some way, or gave you the tools you needed to create a more successful blog?

I see this more often than not. Most people don’t share! I don’t know why, but they don’t!

Remember when you were young and your mother told you to share? Why were you supposed to share when you were young? Because it taught passiveness, empathy, and consideration for others. When you shared your toy with one of the neighborhood kids, more likely than not, they would end up sharing something of theirs with you!

Starting to get the picture?

One of the ways on the road to blogging success is social media sharing! Don’t be like I was! I really hurt myself and my blog by being stingy about sharing on social media sites with other bloggers!

Now I’m not telling you to go off and share every post you see from now on, but have a list of reasons why you should share someone’s post.

Here are some to get you started:

  1. If the post has made you think about something, or made you go, “Hmm, that’s interesting!”-Share It!
  2. If the post has helped you in some way, whether through a question in your head about a certain thing like WordPress plugins, or a question about list building, or perhaps it has helped you better the way you write blog posts, or helped you in some sort of life-situation-Share It!
  3. If the post has pushed you into some sort of emotion.  In other words if it has made you angry, happy, sad, or depressed.  This means that the writer has written something that has influenced an emotion out of you.  I recently read an article that just made me plain mad, and even though I didn’t agree with him, I shared it because it was powerful writing!

The Benefits of Social Media Sharing

The best thing that you can do for your site and your blog is to visit other sites, leave helpful comments, and share the bloggers posts! social mediaLet them know that you have shared their material too! Every blogger loves it when someone writes a great comment and then mentions that they were going to share! Another great way to let them know that you have shared their post is to include their social media I.D. in the share. For instance, if you share their post on Twitter, then do an “@ mention” inside the tweet. This way it will reach them and they will see for themselves. My friend Enstine Muki has a great post on attracting popular bloggers through social media that I recommend you to read too.

In Conclusion

Share and share alike! Use the above-mentioned tips to share someone’s post on social media. Someone was talking to me the other day and they said, “What happens if I share someone’s post, and they don’t share mine?”

The first thing that a great blogger needs to know is this: GIVE.  Stop expecting a hand out. If you keep the mind-set that you want everyone else to succeed, share everyone else’s posts, be mindful of other people’s needs in blogging and do your best to cater and help anyone that you can, and eventually you will become a great blogger!

It’s all in the share! Do your best to share as many posts as you can, and it will come back to you!
